Kleiss Smashes Field at Alamo Shootout
Warren Also Completes Wire-To-Wire Win
SAN ANTONIO, TX - Jacob Kleiss cruised to an even par 71 during the final round of the Legends Junior Tour's Alamo Shootout at Brackenridge Park, obliterating the field by a stunning eight shots to earn his first victory on Tour. Kleiss' two round total of five under par 137 was eight shots clear of Remy Huston and Vance Smith, who finished tied for second at 145. On the Girls side, Elena Warren's steady play was enough to hold off Abbie Driggers by three shots, leading to her first Tour victory of the year after winning two Major championships in 2009.
Entering the final round with a four shot lead, Kleiss stumbled early, making bogey on his first hole and another on the sixth, to fall to three under par for the tournament. Fortunately for Kleiss, his fellow competitors In the final pairing, Vance Smith and Tyler Bumpass each struggled from the start and could not mount a threat to Kleiss' stranglehold on the lead. Kleiss righted the proverbial ship with a birdie on #7 , playing two under par golf for the remainder of his round. Remy Huston shot 73 Wednesday to vault up to a tie with Vance Smith for second place, earning the runner up trophy via tiebreaker (low second round).
Elena Warren entered the final round with a two shot lead over her competition. The lead was erased quickly as Warren double bogied her first hole (#10). Much like in the Boys Division however, Warren's fellow competitors in the final pairing struggled early in the round and never threatened the lead. Warren birdied both hole #1 and #9 for thte second day in a row. Abbie Driggers (Houston) posted the low round of the day (77) to storm into second place. Warren will look to repeat as Texas State Girls Junior champion in two weeks at Horseshoe Bay.
DJ Godoy and Megan Woods won their respective 14 & Under Divisions handily.

SAN ANTONIO, TX - San Antonio native Jacob Kleiss jumped out to a big lead after the opening round of the Legends Junior Tour Alamo Shootout at historic Brackenridge Park. Kleiss birdied six holes during his round against a single bogey to shoot an opening round 66. The score gives him a four shot lead over Vance Smith . Elena Warren leads after the opening round on the Girls side after firing a 76 on Tuesday.
Kleiss' round, as impressive as it is, could have been better. Low scores are usually shot at Brackenridge Park by taking advantage of its par fives, all of which are reachable in two. Kleiss played those holes at just even par and included his only bogey of the day on the 498 yard 13th hole. Despite the troubles the relative “trouble” on the par 5's Kleiss separated himself from the field. Vance Smith (70) and Tyler Bumpass (71) will join Kleiss in the final group Wednesday.
Elena Warren holds a two shot lead going into the final round Wednesday. Warren, who won back-to-back Major championships on the Legends Junior Tour in 2009 (Texas State Junior Girls and George Hannon Invitational), will try to use her experience to hold off Pharr's Priscilla Nevarez, who lurks just two strokes back. Warren made four birdies during her opening round.
DJ Godoy leads a crowded top to the Boys 14 & Under leaderboard after shooting 78. Max Arguindegui shot a personal tournament best 79 to join Godoy in the division's final pairing. Megan Woods leads the Girls 14 & Under by 10 shots.
